For any newcomers: Minecraft LIVE is Mojang Studios’ very own show designed to keep you up to date on everything coming to the world of Minecraft. There’s two of them a year to keep up with our regular game drops and anything else we’ve got going on.  

Here’s what happened in the latest edition!

Mounts of Mayhem 

This show featured a first look at some of the features from Mounts of Mayhem – a game drop coming later this year. Check out our deep dive article for all the details or read on for a quick overview.  

First, we introduce the nautilus, a rideable underwater mob that will have you exploring the depths like never before! You can even build from it, like our old friend the happy ghast, and deck it out in colorful armor. Deep sea exploration is still dangerous, but the new “Breath of the Nautilus” effect (which pauses your breath meter), as well as your increased maneuverability, will make things a bit less daunting. 

Then there’s the spear – our first tiered weapon in quite some time. “Tiered” means you can craft it out of different materials, and each one will act in a slightly different way.  

The spear is especially exciting due to the unique way it works. You can jab with it or use the charge attack. But watch your timing - hold the charge attack for too long and your attacks will lose attributes and effectiveness. Just as exciting is the way that the spear’s damage is affected by your movement speed. Go faster (for example on a mount) and you’ll hit even harder! It’s all explained in the show (and in this article). 

We hope the spear will change how you approach combat in Minecraft and will make battles even more dynamic. These features coming in the Mounts of Mayhem drop will go into testing soon.

The Copper Age

As you might notice from the 22 times our developers say “copper” during this segment, we delve deep into The Copper Age early in the show. Many of you have already been testing features of this drop that changes up early-game tool and weapon progression, introduces the copper golem, shows off powered shelves (including the cheeky ways you’ve been using them), and more! 

Even more exciting, you’ll be playing this game drop in just a few days. The Copper Age releases on September 30th.  Prepare to download! 

Happy ghast 

Our last drop, Chase the Skies, brought loads of great features to Minecraft and the happy ghast continues to be a community favorite. We created a short video to celebrate just how adorable it really is.  

WARNING: the tune accompanying this animation is very catchy. You might end up singing it at inconvenient/inappropriate moments for days to come.  

A very useful Minecraft Tutorial

Minecraft can be a bit confusing. What should I do? Why is the tree I punched now suspended in the air? How come my attempt to re-create the Leaning Tower of Pisa looks more like an actual pizza than an iconic landmark? 

No matter how long you’ve been playing Minecraft we hope you get something out of this segment. And remember – it doesn’t matter how you choose to play or how intricate your builds are – if you’re having fun, you’re doing it right.

Dragon Ball-Z DLC 

You’ll be powering up Kamehamehas and throwing down Spirit Bombs in this new DLC – all about Dragon Ball Z! It will be releasing later this year, though a free Super Saiyan hair character creator item is available to download right now!  This DLC has everything you can imagine (so long as you’re thinking about Dragon Ball-Z stuff) so check back soon for more details and have your Dragon Ball wish granted!

Stories from Minecraft

Minecraft inspires people all around the world to do amazing things both inside and outside of the game. We talk to three very different people to learn about how Minecraft has affected them and to show off some of their achievements. We hope this segment inspires you to do even greater things than you already are. 

Community Pre-show

Without our community, Minecraft is basically a big bag of pixels and code. Note to developers: this is a joke. You are all great and we have a lot of respect for your work. 

But yes, our community is bigger than it’s ever been and has been doing even more amazing things than ever before. Aimsey and Shadoune hosted our pre-show where they show off some recent highlights and get surprisingly enthused by our upcoming Minecraft Friendly Fishing Add-On.  

The Deep Dig After-Show

There’s so much to talk about that we need an after-show to cover it all. Join Jens, Agnes, Vu, and content creators Shubble and Mogswamp as they show off some incredible creations using features from The Copper Age. Later in the show content creator Tubbo joins us for some nautilus action and spear-themed mini-games.  

It’s chaotic! It’s relatively unscripted! It’s the Deep Dig After-show!
